About the Author Gary L. Tornes left his home town of International Falls, Minnesota for Marine Corps boot camp on Christmas Day, 1965. The temperature was -34 degrees below zero. For the next two years he would belong to the Corps. He was wounded twice while serving as an infantry squad leader in Vietnam during 1966 and 1967. After his release from active duty, he worked in Alaska for many years. In 1985, he received a B.S. degree in Business from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota. Tornes lived in Wisconsin where he was an executive for a large construction and engineering firm. He eventually retired and resided in Northern Wisconsin until he passed away in September of 2010. |
